Welcome Kayla and James

KAYLA VAN DER WATT
Kayla joined Dynamo as a Consultant in June 2021 in the Stellenbosch office. She is a qualified actuary with a wealth of experience in the actuarial industry since 2014. She graduated (with distinction) from the University of Pretoria with a BSc (Hons) in Actuarial Science in December 2013. Prior to joining Dynamo, Kayla worked for Platinum life for 4 years as well as Guardrisk for 3.5 years. During this time Kayla specialised in life insurance: SAM calculations (within a cell captive, Market Risk, Life Underwriting, Dividend calculations), ORSA, IFRS 4 as well as IFRS 17 (early implementation discussions). Kayla also has a keen interest for database design and automation using software such as SQL, VBA, Excel, Access, Prophet, Java, Python etc.

Outside of work Kayla enjoys hiking, running, reading and spending time with friends and family.

Fun fact: Kayla is planning to hike the Visrivier canyon in May 2022 (if covid permits). now though…

 

JAMES ELLIS
James joined Dynamo in May 2021 as a Junior Software Developer in South Africa. Before joining Dynamo, James submitted his MEng thesis in Reinforcement Learning at Stellenbosch University. Prior to this, he studied Electrical and Electronic Engineering at Stellenbosch University. James enjoys problem solving and programming, and is also interested in machine learning. When he is not working, he enjoys hiking, jogging and spending time with friends and family.

Fun fact: James once hiked a part of the Drakensberg with a university group.
